Dreams Don't Break With Homes: Setting Goals After Separation
When a home breaks, it can feel like your future broke with it. You may start to think, "What's the point? Nothing good is going to happen to me anyway."
Please hear this: a broken home is something that happened to you. It is not who you are, and it is not where your story ends.
Many strong, successful, happy adults grew up in homes that fell apart. They did not succeed because their pain was small. They succeeded because they kept going, one small step at a time.
Here is how you can start:
1. Write down one dream. It can be big or small: finishing school, becoming a doctor, starting a business, being a good parent one day. Put it somewhere you can see it.
2. Break it into small steps. You don't have to do everything today. What is one thing you can do this week? Finish your homework. Read one chapter. Ask a teacher for help.
3. Find your cheerleaders. Look for one or two people who believe in you: a teacher, a relative, a mentor, a friend. You don't need a crowd, just a few voices that encourage you.
4. Be patient with yourself. Some days will be heavy, and that's okay. A slow day is not a failed day. Rest, then start again.
5. Remember your worth. Your family's situation does not decide your value or your future.
You are allowed to dream. You are allowed to succeed. And you are allowed to be happy, even if your home looks different from the one you imagined.
Your dreams did not break when your home did. 💛
If you grew up in a broken home, tell me in the comments: what is one dream you're holding on to?
